What Is Good For Us Isn't Necessarily Good For Your Pet...
Working in a veterinary practice can make you more aware of things that can accidentally go wrong! One of which is how often and how easily it is for pets to eat what they shouldn't!
In the past year we have been contacted by concerned owners when their pets have eaten or been in contact with the following products;
Ficam W (pesticide), Metaldehyde (slug/snail bait), Vandal Paint, Oral Contraceptives, Nurofen, Cannabis, Johnsons Ear Drops, chocolate, tin foil, pot pourri, pickled onions, lilies and melon seeds.
Some are highly toxic, others thankfully not but it highlights the fact that animals do not leave things alone, especially if they are alone. Please keep medications, pesticides, chemicals, cleaning agents etc out of your pet' reach!
* Some foods we take for granted are harmful to your pets. Some of the offending foods are listed below;
* Chocolate (Can be lethal in large amounts especially if high percentage chocolate)
* Baby Food (Can contain onion powder)
* Raisins & Grapes (can cause renal failure)
* Mushrooms (all types are extremely toxic to cats)
* Onions & Garlic (can be fatal in large amounts)
* Avocado (all products of the avocado are poisonous to dogs)
* Xylitol (artificial sweetener can be potentially deadly to your pet)
* Remember plants can be dangerous too! More information shortly...
If you think your pet has eaten something toxic contact your veterinary surgery immediately with as much information as possible on the product. If possible also bring any packaging to the surgery with you.

A simple but possibly lethal mistake. Always check that the flea product you are using on your cat is specifically for cats.
