Some reasons to consider pet insurance

Each year 1 in 3 pets will need to be treated for injury or illness. It's an extra cost that any caring pet owner is willing to pay, but as veterinary technolgy increases, so too does the cost of treatment.

Pet insurance offers great peace of mind, and allows the veterinary surgeon treating your pet to offer a very thorough course of treatment, without the worry of the cost to you.

Key things to look out for in a pet insurance policy:

* Is the policy Time Limited? Some policies will provide a set time limit per condition, therefore if your pet has a long term disease, they would exclude that condition after 12 months.

* Is the policy a maximum benefit? This type of cover provides a maximum amount per condition. After this limit has been reached, the insurance company will exclude that condition for the remaainder of your pet's life.

* Is the policy a Lifetime Cover? This is the plicy you need to have. This covers all medical conditions for life, as long as you continue to renew your policy.

A this practice, we are Appointed Representatives with Petplan. We are able to provide your pet with 4 weeks free insurance (conditions apply).

If you have insurance but the monthly direct debit has gone up and you have seen a cheaper deal somewhere else and you are going to change insurance companies    STOP    there are things that you should check BEFORE you change companies.  If your pet has been seen at the vets for any treatment, whether you have made a claim or not, your new company will almost certainly not offer cover for that condition or conditions related to it.

Again, if you are thinking of cancelling your insurance as you have never used it, think again.  Insurance is something that you hope you don't have to use but when you have to, you will be so grateful that you have it!
